Day Tour to Zaptaillas Cays: As Experienced by One of our Students

Posted by |

Every Monday the staff at Habla Ya Spanish Schools puts up a list of the different activities the students can do throughout the week. This gives them a chance to get to know one another better, spend some time with each other outside of classes, and have some awesome safe fun during the week.

This past weekend a few of our students went out snorkeling to Zapatilla Island. Here is the experience of one of our students.

I’ve only been at Habla Ya a couple of days when I saw the awesome tour to go snorkeling at Zapatilla Island. My first thoughts about this tour were that this is the perfect opportunity to get out in the sun, interact with others, and a great way to spend my Sunday. The tour started bright and early on Sunday where we met at the indicated meeting point at 8am. One by one we all started gathering and a group of 9 of us met, we met our captain, Martin, for the day and headed off onto the boat.

Zapatilla Island

Our boat ride was about 40 minutes long, where we drove through the waters of Bocas and admired the extremely calm, beautiful waters. I don’t think I’ve ever seen water so calm and tranquil. We got to our first snorkel spot shortly after and this is where the fun began. Each of us geared up and one by one started jumping into the water. The warm waters felt great as we were in the sun and admiring the underwater world. We were able to snorkel for a good 45 minutes in the beautiful area seeing different coral, fish, jellyfish, and other ocean life.

Snorkeling Zapatilla

When we were done snorkeling at our first location, our second stop was the beautiful secluded Zapatilla Island. Here we had about 2.5 hours to explore the island, go for a swim, have some lunch and just relax on the beach. Who doesn’t love spending an afternoon weekend at the beach?

Habla Ya Students

After all that snorkeling, it was time for lunch (each providing our own) and some outside of school conversations! This was the perfect time where we got to know our classmates and really interacted with each other. Aside from lunch, a group of us went to explore the beautiful island where we walked the entire circumference. The island was small enough you were able to do an entire rotation in about 30 minutes. Walking across a bridge, through a jungle, and around the beach really made it feel like an adventure.

Zapatillas

Our second snorkel stop was much shorter this time, at about 30 minutes. Each of us still got a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather that Bocas has to offer as well as the underwater world. Before we headed back to the docks our captain drove by Sloth Island where we were able to spot some sloths. There were only a few in the trees visible but it was great to see the cute little creatures in their natural habitats.

I’m extremely glad that I got a chance to spend the day with other students from Habla Ya and we were able to do different activities. The tour itself was a lot of fun, and we ended up with great weather. What a perfect Sunday!
