Where to Have Lunch in Boquete? Boquete’s Best Lunch Spots

Posted by |

It’s quite amazing the number of restaurants in Boquete, and the variety! Boquete is not really not a large town (about 20,000 people only), but it’s become known in the Chiriqui region for it’s excellent restaurants. Not only do Boqueteños and tourists enjoy the wide range of cuisine choices from all over the world (and fresh local ingredients), but also families and groups from David and even Panama City come to Boquete specifically to enjoy the fresh weather and its restaurants. The more the merrier!

This my second post in a short series of top restaurants in Boquete. Today I share my favorite 6 spots for lunch (click here to checkout my post about restaurants for breakfast).

If you are tired of the boring sandwich for lunch, I highly recommend these restaurants below. They will surprise you with their international flavors and excellent quality dishes! All of my restaurant picks are located in downtown Boquete, within walking distance from the Habla Ya Boquete. Most lunch restaurants in Boquete start serving at 12pm.

  1. Big Daddy’s Grill
  2. Restaurante Mango
  3. Traditional Panamanian Restaurants
  4. Baru Restaurant and Bar
  5. Art Café
  6. Mike’s Global Grill

These restaurants were selected based on taste, ambiance, experience and range of choices available. $ means under $5 per plate. $$ means $5 - $10 per plate. $$$ means over $10 per plate.

The map below shows the location of each of the restaurants featured in this post.

Big Daddy's Grill

$$ - For excellent fish tacos and salads, go to Big Daddy’s! They are the experts in everything fish. By using super fresh ingredients (organic salad greens), you receive a plateful of perfectly prepared and perfectly paired items. Their service is excellent (the owner is often there to greet you and check in on your meal) and they make a killer margarita! They also have vegan and vegetarian options. Please note, they are closed on Mondays.

Big Daddy's Fresh Fish and Chips. Their fish is never purchased frozen.

Restaurante Mango

$$/$$$ - Mango is a wonderful newer restaurant in Boquete (open for 1 year) which uses organic ingredients whenever possible and has a small rotating gourmet menu. They are known for their wood-oven pizzas and salads, but they also have amazing southeast Asian dishes such from Thailand and Vietnam. The restaurant is located right next to a pleasant stream within Isla Verde (one of the favorite lodging options amongst our students) so I would definitely suggest sitting on their outdoor patio. Please note, they are closed on Mondays.

Traditional Panamanian Restaurants (Sabrosón, Nelvis, Jardines de Boquete, Las Orquídeas)

$ - I highly recommend an inexpensive plate of Panamanian food for lunch (and save money for a quality dinner restaurant!). You could do a regular rice/meat/salad plate or go for a sancocho (traditional soup with chicken or beef and root vegetables) if you want something lighter. They also have freshly made chicha (fruit juice) which you shouldn’t miss.

Baru Restaurant and Bar

$$ - Baru is always a favorite because it’s located right on the park and has typical “American-style” food and drink menus (hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, pizza, etc.). They have a comfortable outdoor seating area which is great for soaking in the warm afternoon weather. The only downside for me personally is the lack of uniqueness; it feels like a TGIFridays or any of those typical chain restaurants.

Art Café

$$ - This is a favorite among many of the locals. They serve excellent French crêpes and traditional French dishes such as duck confit, salad niçoise, and escargot. The ambiance of this restaurant is very lively and warm, which spurs lots of conversation. Please note, they are closed on Mondays.

Mike’s Global Grill

$$ - This restaurant/bar is very chill and the perfect spot for lunch. It’s also just a short walk from the Habla Ya school. They have an eclectic menu of burgers, sandwiches, falafel, and salads.

There are many other great restaurants in Boquete where you can have an amazing lunch. Here I've only covered those that are close to Habla Ya.
