Where to Have Breakfast in Boquete? My Favorite Boquete Breakfast Spots

Posted by |

It’s quite amazing the number of restaurants in Boquete, and the variety! Boquete is not really not a large town (about 20,000 people only), but it’s become known in the Chiriqui region for it’s excellent restaurants. Not only do Boqueteños and tourists enjoy the wide range of cuisine choices from all over the world (and fresh local ingredients), but also families and groups from David and even Panama City come to Boquete specifically to enjoy the fresh weather and its restaurants. The more the merrier!

This is the first post in a short series of top restaurants in Boquete. This is of course my own subjective opinion... feel free to share your favorite Boquete restaurants.

Today I share my favorite 5 spots for breakfast in Boquete.

  1. Sugar & Spice Bakery
  2. La Ceiba Bakery
  3. Restaurante Sabroson
  4. Café & Cacao
  5. Kotowa Coffee House

A delicious breakfast from Sugar and Spice made with fresh local ingredients... don't miss it!

Whether you want something similar to home or a traditional Panamanian breakfast, you will be able to find what you are looking for in Boquete. With a good mix of American and European bakeries, stirred with some Latin American flair, you will definitely be satisfied with the breakfast options.

My top 5 breakfast picks below are all in the downtown sector of Boquete (Bajo Boquete), which is convenient walking distance to the Boquete Habla Ya School! Most of these restaurants serve breakfast until about 11am.

These restaurants were selected based on taste, ambiance, experience and range of choices available. $ means under $2 per plate. $$ means about $2 - $5 per plate.

Sugar and Spice Bakery

$$ - This is the most popular expat hangout in Boquete, and for good reason. The menu and offerings are AMAZING. They have a large variety of really delicious muffins, but there are also egg plates (omelets, sandwiches, cooked to order), waffles, and oatmeal. Not to mention the quality coffee and teas… this is a must-try in Boquete! As an added bonus it's also the best place to pick up on some local expat gossip...

At Sugar and Spice you will find delicious artisan breads and interesting characters
At Sugar and Spice you will find delicious artisan breads and interesting characters. Same goes for Kotowa Coffee at Los Establos Plaza.

Sugar and Spice is located on the main street in downtown Boquete, 3 blocks from the park (heading out of Boquete and towards David), across from The Fish House. Please note that they are closed on Wednesdays.

La Ceiba Bakery

$$ - This friendly bakery is located right in the downtown area, close to the bridge heading to the fairgrounds. They have a small but diverse breakfast menu including french toast, arepas, pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, bread, yogurt, etc. It’s just a great place to relax and use their wifi, while having a croissant and coffee. They also make a large selection of fresh breads daily.

Restaurante Sabrosón

$ - If you want a hearty Panamanian breakfast, look no further than the beloved Sabrosón. It’s as cheap as can be and really tasty for Panamanian food. They have a buffet selection of salchicha guisado, carne guisado, scrambled eggs, fried chicken, hojaldras, tortillas, empanadas, etc.

Sabrosón is located on the main street in downtown Boquete, 2 blocks north from the central park, before Farmacia Revilla.

Café & Cacao

$$ - This is a nice place to go for a coffee, hot chocolate, or other beverage, but they don’t have a very good selection of food items. They do offer a few breakfast plates (pancakes, waffles, burrito), sandwiches and homemade desserts, but they are not a bakery. The setting is nice and fresh and they have free wifi.

Café & Cacao is located on the main street in downtown Boquete, two blocks south from the central park, next to Todo a Dollar.

Kotowa Coffee House

$$ - Kotowa is more of a coffee shop than a spot for breakfast, but it’s very popular with our students since it’s right across from our Boquete school! They have every kind of drink you can imagine (think of Starbucks on steroids with even yummier coffee drinks) and they also offer some sandwiches and desserts.

Kotowa Coffee Shop is located in Los Establos Plaza in the center of downtown Boquete, just across from where Habla Ya Boquete Spanish School is.

There are many other breakfast options in Boquete to try out. Just from the top of my head, if you're in town for several weeks, you shouldn't miss Central Park, The Panamonte and a couple of others around town. Go, explore and find some other great restaurants for breakfast in Boquete... and then share your discoveries with us by posting a comment!
