In January of 2009 we added four new classrooms to our Spanish School to make a total of ten. Three of these classrooms, a study area and a sales/marketting office are located at the back of the Plaza from where we have a beautiful view to the Baru Volcano.
Since many people come to Boquete to hike to the top of the Volcan Baru I thought that it might be useful for them to have more information about the weather conditions on the top of Panama's highest mountain. As we only have one webcam I decided to move the webcam that used to be pointing to Boquete's Central Avenue (which really wasn't that exciting) to this new part of the school and I've placed it viewing out of one of the windows of the new office that I now work at.
I have tested this live video feed in the most recent versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Firefox, so as long as you have Javascript enabled and you install the ActiveX controller from Cisco-Linksys (you should be prompted to install it when you land on this page - check out the upper part of your browser, click it and install it - and if you don't get prompted it's because of your browser's security settings) you should be able to see how the top of the Volcan Baru looks from dowtown Boquete.
It's a shame that only in Internet Explorer you are able to see this feed in a higher resolution (the other browsers don't give you a drop down menu to change the resolution... don't know why).
Sometimes this webcam freezes (sorry it's just a cheap one) so we will reboot it every 24 hours but feel free to leave us a comment if you can't see anything and you would like us to reboot it!
During the dry season you should be able to see the top of the Baru Volcano everyday. During the rainy season you can sometimes see the top of the Volcano in the mornings (if you can see the top during the morning this means that you should have started your hike on the day before!).
Tell us what you think about our webcam pointing to the top of Volcan Baru and remember that the weather up there can suddenly change, especially in the rainy season (please make sure to be adequately geared up!), but hopefully it will give you a better idea about when you should make your move to Boquete to hike to the top of the Volcan Baru!
