The hike to the top of the Baru Volcano, back and forth (up and down), makes a total of 27 km. The excursion can be made a camping trip setting up tents, a camp fire and having a nice dinner just before reaching the top, or it can also be completed without dedicating a night to rest. The choice is yours but for several reasons we suggest the camping option as you will definitively enjoy the experience a lot more. Class includes theory part on the beach, surf board, rash guard, wax, transport to surf break, class in the water, and transport back to the school on Carenero. A boat from Isla Colón, the main island, to La Escuela del Mar Surf School in Carenero costs $1.50 per person. Daily classes start at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Meeting point is Bibi's Restaurant, right next to La Escuela del Mar Surf School (where a boat can drop you off on a dock).

Certain Off-Shore Dives require a minimum of 2 persons and others require 3 persons, and can only be done when sea conditions permit and generally not between November and March and certain days of June and July. Exact price for Off-Shore Dives depends on distance to dive site. The selection of your dive site is made depending on weather and sea conditions. Machete Cave (2 person minimum, $75 pp), Isla Pastores (3 person minimum, $75 pp), Cayo Zapatillas All Day Trip (3 person minimum, $85 pp), Tiger Rock All Day (3 person minimum, $125 pp). Certain prices can be adjusted depending on number of guests.

Want to become a PADI Instructor? Starfleet Scuba in Bocas del Toro is the base for Panama's only PADI Course Director. Instructor Development Courses are programmed throughout the year - the next IDC will begin on January 4th 2012. The last IDC in November 2011 was another great success with all candidates qualifying and Starfleet maintaining it's 100% pass rate.
