This Part Time Spanish Course for Expats is intended for students who are living or working in Panama and do not have enough availability to study Spanish intensively. If you live in Latin America but have enough time to commit to a more intensive Spanish course you might consider our Group 4 Spanish Course or any other of our Spanish courses that helps students learn Spanish in a shorter time frame.

Reasons to Learn Spanish if you relocate in Latin America

Learning Spanish if you are retiring in Latin America will make your life a lot more exciting

Why Learn Spanish?

If you are planning to relocate or retire in Latin America: learn Spanish! It is a must in order to get the most out of your relocation experience and the key to having a more fulfilling new life. The real world is right outside your door and by speaking even a little bit of Spanish you will be able to embrace your new life completely.

English will allow you to survive but you will get so much more if you can converse in Spanish with the local people. It is not true either that everyone speaks English in Panama, in fact being able to learn a second language is mostly reserved to those privileged who can afford a private education. How are you going to make your new home a better place if you cannot speak Spanish?

Benefits of Learning Spanish for New Residents in Latin America

Being able to speak Spanish with the locals is one of the most important skills that anybody who relocates in Latin America should have

Speaking Spanish will give you a better lifestyle!

There is an increasingly English-speaking expat community in Panama but you get so much more out of life in a new country if you can converse with the local people.

If you are moving to a new home, speaking Spanish to local trades people, builders, utility companies, or when setting up a business, means you will get superior, faster service and you will be in a better position to negotiate if things go wrong. Knowing the language also opens up endless new friendships, and a deeper understanding of the Latin American culture.

Details of our Part Time Spanish Crash Course

Being able to speak Spanish with the locals is one of the most important skills that anybody who relocates in Latin America should have

4 - 10 hrs per week, 2 - 5 days of lessons per week

The Spanish classes in this Part Time Spanish Course focus on practical everyday communicative situations rather than on grammar analysis and writing. Special emphasis is placed on listening and speaking. Importance is also given to the cultural and social aspects of the Latin American community.

Students normally have between 6 and 10 hours of Spanish lessons per week. Some students have 6 hours of group or mini group lessons only. Other students add 4 hours of private lessons and yet others decide to only have private Spanish lessons normally because they prefer to start their course immediately instead of waiting for a group of their same level to start. Spanish lessons are held either in the mornings or afternoons. The class schedule is set taking into account student's preference and teacher's availability.

In 2.5 months students can make a significant progress in their Spanish. Students are required to sign up for at least 10 weeks (2 months and a half). In this amount of time they will take the amount of Spanish lessons required to finish at least one of our first three Spanish levels (each of them is coursed in an average of 60 hours of group lessons).

If you are retiring in Latin America, we suggest that you at least finish our first 2 levels: Survival I (A1) and Survival II (A2). Many of our students sign up for 60 hours, take the 10 week course and then come back 2 or 3 months later and sign up for another 60 hours to complete a second level. Upon completing those two levels, many students return a year later to do another one or two levels, but it is very important that you keep using your Spanish during all of that time.
