Petition to the new owners of Boquete Paradise Gardens

Posted by hablaya | August 13th, 2010

Here's a petition I would encourage you to sign. It was forwarded to us today from Allegra, formerly of Mono Feliz in Punta Burica.

It will be submitted to the new owners of Paradise Gardens (Jardín Encantado).

You just have to place your full name, hometown and country as a comment on this post and we'll take care of the rest. Please feel free to forward to other volunteers and those who may have an interest in conservation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings New Owners of Paradise Gardens,

We, the undersigned, welcome you to Boquete and congratulate you on the
purchase of Paradise Gardens!

We, respectfully, request that you consider continuing the original
Wildlife Rescue and Release mission founded by Paul and Jenny Saban.

Paradise Gardens is more than a property. It is the beating heart of the
conservation community here in Boquete. Many of us, and especially the
children, have an emotional attachment to the animals and the grounds.

We believe we speak for:
Sam, the Cockatoo
Monty, Billy, and Manolo, the white faced Capuchin Monkeys
Muffin, the yellow thighed Caquie
Lottie, the Margay
Peeps, the Jaguarundi,

the other animals in residence, and the many animals restored to the wild,
when we say, "Please continue the Rescue and Release mission". In these
times of ever shrinking wild spaces, it is critically needed.

The volunteers, are available and ready to assist you with all their knowledge, passion and commitment.

Warmest Regards,

Habla Ya Spanish School

  1. I have highly recommended visiting and supporting Paradise Gardens in the past, and I hope I’ll be able to do so in the future.

The high point of my visit to Boquete was our 3 hr visit to Paradise Gardens! This place really distinguishes your town from so many other places in Panama, or the world for that matter.
I hope when we return this December, I will be able to volunteer there a few days as I have been dreaming of since last year!
    Thank you,
    Nancy

  3. Caitlan Parker says:

  4. Matthew De Ville says:

A really inspiring place – and a great way to spend a couple of hours. Hope it’s in good hands, and long may it continue.

  5. hello to all who think the Paradise Garden might be continued by the new “owner”, Claudia and Siegfried Schumann. Just read something, the formal owners of the Paradise Garden has put into an open blog:
We have just picked this up although we do try to keep abreast of developments there. Your reference to the new owners is misguided. The Schumanns have yet to pay for the property and we are pursuing them through the courts. The deposit, which is still with the Land registry is all that has been paid and they are disputing the balance – in short, trying to steal the property for only half of the price that was agreed in the contract.
When we agreed to sell it to them, they made a lot of promises with regard to the gardens and contact with us. From the day they signed they have refused all contact, refused to give us our personal belongings and furniture, sold off animals and birds that were not theirs and in short, broken every promise that they made. We had told them of our desire to start another P.G. in the Far East but to date, we are unable to leave the U>K>
As for the state of PG. When we left it was in very good order and we used our pensions to build everything. The visitors donations, for the main part, provided the income for the upkeep of the animals etc. The Schumanns are inveterate liars and I doubt very much that what they have said bears any relation to the truth.
We have waited until now to make this public because of the Court Action but now the gloves are off. Our friend Roy Knight has been acting as our ‘agent’ all this time and so we are in very regular contact with him, but no-one else, sadly. Our wish for the health and welfare of the remaining animals and birds as well as those which are in desperate need of help is uppermost in our minds every day and we wish you every success in your mission. If you can use these facts in any way to further your cause, you may do so.
    Good Luck
    Paul and Jenny Saban
