The following letter was sent out today to the business community of Boquete.
Dear Business Community of Boquete,
In the last couple of months a few business owners/managers from Boquete’s tourism industry have been meeting each week trying to find a way in which we could have a positive impact in Boquete’s tourism in an effective, permanent and sustainable way. Regular attendees to these meetings have been Jorge Tovar (Boquete Tree Trek), Anayansi Menéndez (Hotel Oasis), Analía Velásquez (Valle Escondido) and myself, Julio Santamaría (Habla Ya Panama Spanish School).
After several ineffective ideas and attempts to make this happen we now feel that we have finally found a way in which we will make this work.
We have decided to become part of ADIB (Association for Boquete’s Integral Development), which has been working towards Boquete’s integral and sustainable development since 1997 and by joining efforts with them we are now the ADIB’s Committee of Tourism, and our mission is to promote and ensure the Integral Development of Boquete’s Tourism.

The seven programs in which we have decided to get DIRECTLY involved are (sorry, the translations and summaries aren’t 100% accurate, after naming the topic I just start listing points and ideas, originals are in Spanish, and there are many terms that I haven’t handled in English. for exact meaning see the above link):
- “The Brand Boquete”: define Boquete, its features, attractions, services, products and then market it (and make sure we are included in ATP’s agenda – in the last international fairs and media productions we have been totally ignored – and to also do our own marketing campaigns)
- “City of Knowledge”: training our people to be able to give the quality of service that we desire (guides, be multilingual, waitresses, receptionists, hotel staff, functionaries, etc.)
- “Thematic Parks”: big events (like the fair and the Boquete Jazz Festival) throughout the year (but with a higher QUALITY), Biodiversity, Energy & Research Center, Coffee & Agriculture Museum, Train to Boquete, Local Produce Market, Arts & Craft Market
- “Biodiversity”: Hiking Trails, National Parks, Scenic Tours, Lookout points, Boulevard next to the Caldera River, Cycling Paths, etc.
- “Signaling & Beauty”: touristic signaling, cataloging of species and signaling them (flora y fauna), road signs, maps of Boquete throughout the district, décor of Boquete, electricity and communications cables underneath land
- “Digital Platform”: Boquete Official Websites, security and traffic cameras, etc.
- “Access to Boquete”: make David an international airport and bring international flights to the province, and make the border with Costa Rica a friendlier border to encourage tourism in both ways
